Our Adventures
United States of America (American Adventure)

Here stands a stately Georgian manor, whose more than 100,000 bricks were all handmade and aged to appear authentic. No expense was spared right down to the slate
roof, marble floors, and arguably the most technologically advanced audio animatronic show anywhere in the world. Step inside to view portraits of a few famous presidents in the foyer, enjoy the air conditioning and listen to the musical entertainment. Traditional American songs performed by the Voices of Liberty alternate performances with American Vibe’s more contemporary selections. Inside the theatre Mark Twain and Ben Franklin host a remarkable show and try to squeeze every memorable person and event in United States history, from the first colonists to
the twenty-first century in under thirty minutes. Momentary cameos are provided by such famous names as Roosevelt, Bell, Lindbergh, Kennedy, Armstrong, Carson, Disney, Einstein, Garland, Hope, Presley, Sinatra, Wright and numerous others. Historical photography illustrates the struggles, and strengths of this nation.

CHECK IT OUT! From your library. Choose one of the names in the above list, and borrow their biography. Read it and find out what made them so famous. Outside, the theme of this pavilion is obvious from the landscaping – all the flowers are red, white and blue. These colors represent the qualities the nation hopes to possess; valor, purity and vigilance.

The Spirits of America Fife and Drum Corps can be seen and heard performing in front
of the pavilion. This patriotic demonstration takes guests back in time to the beginning of this country; a time when brave soldiers marched head on into battle to earn the freedoms we hold so dear.

The American flag stands out here above all else. Every year, we see Scout troops participating in flag ceremonies, but this tradition is much more meaningful than just the putting away of the flag for the night. The raising of the flag takes place at sunrise, and the retreat ceremony takes place at dusk. The flag should rise quickly, but be brought down slowly.

NOTE FROM AUTHOR: THIS IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE SECTION OF THE EPCOT BOOK AS IT PRESENTS THE IMPORTANCE OF GOD IN OUR NATIONS HISTORY.  UNFORTUNATELY, THEY TOOK THE AUTHORITY OF THE BIBLE FOR GRANTED, AND FUTURE GENERATIONS HAVE LOST RESPECT FOR IT.
AS THIS BOOK WENT TO PRINT, WE HEARD THAT AN ANTI-CHRISTIAN GROUP WAS WINNING A BATTLE TO EXCLUDE THIS SCRIPT FROM USE. WE INCLUDED THIS SAME SCRIPT IN THE MAGIC KINGDOM BOOK BECAUSE WE FEEL IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT THE HERITAGE OF THIS NATION NOT BE LOST.

The following ceremonial script is taken from the United States Air Force Academy.
The emcee begins reading as the Honor Guard is coming forward.
“The flag folding ceremony represents the same religious principles on which our country was originally founded. The portion of the flag denoting honor is the canton of blue containing the stars representing the states our veterans served in uniform. The canton field of blue dresses from left to right and is inverted when draped as a pall on a casket of a veteran who has served our country in uniform.
In the Armed Forces of the United States, at the ceremony of retreat the flag is lowered, folded in a triangle fold and kept under watch throughout the night as a tribute to our nation’s honored dead. The next morning it is brought out and, at the ceremony of reveille, run aloft as a symbol of our belief in the resurrection of the body.”
(Wait for the Honor Guard or Flag Detail to unravel and fold the flag into a quarter fold— resume reading when Honor Guard is standing ready.)
“The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life.
